Adding barcodes and SKU IDs to all your products
- Please add unique SKU IDs to all your products and variants. Adding unique SKU IDs to all your products and variants is necessary to ensure that the correct SKUs are sent to your customers.
- The SKU IDs should be unique for everything that is physically different and the same for everything that’s physically the same. For example, if you sell sweaters, a yellow sweater in size L would get a different SKU ID than a yellow sweater in size M.
- Please add the barcodes that are physically on the SKUs to all your products and variants in Shopify. Using barcodes will allow us to restock and fulfill your orders faster and more accurately.

Adding SKU details for insurance and customs documents to all SKUs
For the insurance in the fulfillment center and to be able to create the customs documents necessary to ship non-eu orders (e.g. to Switzerland), we need the following information for all SKUs in your Shopify. Please fill out these fields for all of your products and variants in Shopify so we can sync the information to the Hive App:
- HS (Harmonized System) code
- You could use this website to find the HS codes for your products or directly search for your product category in Shopify (see the explanation video).
- If you ship orders from our Italian fulfillment center, it’s mandatory to add a 10-digit HS code for each SKU. Please remember that Shopify's internal tool on the product page only generates HS codes with fewer digits. To fix this aspect, simply add some additional zeros at the end of the HS code until you reach 10 digits. For example
180632
=> 1806320000
.
- Country of origin
- Cost per item
- This should be the production cost of the items. Your customers won’t be able to see this information.

Setting up the inventory sync
Hive can sync the actual inventory quantities back to your Shopify. This way you have an accurate overview of your inventory in Shopify and you can prevent overselling. The inventory numbers are synced back to Shopify on an hourly basis. The inventory sync will be enabled for you when Hive starts fulfillment of your orders. To activate the inventory sync between the Hive App and your Shopify, please follow the following steps:
- Create a location in Shopify named
"Hive Fulfillment Center"
- Open Shopify → Settings → Locations →Add location → Location name =
"Hive Fulfillment Center"
and tick the box for “Fulfill online orders from this location”
- Important: The name of the location needs to be exactly
Hive Fulfillment Center
— be careful not to make any typos as we wouldn't be able to find that location otherwise to send updated inventory information back to Shopify.
- Add the Hive Fulfillment Center location for all of your products and variants in Shopify.
